Action on gender equality must be accelerated — Gender equality is critical to realizing all the SDGs, yet progress remains unacceptably slow. UN Women’s Gender snapshot 2022 shows that SDG 5 is well off track, reflecting and affecting the progress of all of the SDGs. Progress towards SDG 6 on clean warter and sanitation has stagnated — SDG 6 is about clean water and sanitation for all. Our current trajectory towards achieving SDG 6 by 2030 is seriously off-track. Progress in reducing maternal mortality has seriously slowed — Globally, maternal deaths either increased or stagnated in most regions between 2016 and 2020. A new report on trends in maternal mortality from 2000 to 2020 shows that progress in maternal mortality has slowed globally, putting countries off track to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target 3.1 by 2030.
