Numerous adaptation and resilience measures are suggested to combat climate change in Bangladesh. They range from phasing out fossil fuel subsidies, increasing use of renewable energy such as solar, wind and hydro power, and increasing use of off-grid solar for remote areas, to the rationing of irrigation water, charging fees based on water used, increasing the height of aisles between farmlands by 6 inches to conserve 60-70% of rainwater, cross-damming small rivers in suitable places to store water for irrigation and to recharge sub-surface water. Without urgent action, the country’s strong growth potential could be in risk.
