Community Participation

Participation, here, means contributing ideas, making decisions and taking responsibility. Community participation can be loosely defined as the involvement of people in a community in projects to solve their own problems. Participation is held to be a basic human right and a fundamental principle of democracy and people should be given the opportunity to participate where possible. Community participation motivates people to work together, as people feel a sense of community and see an opportunity to better their own lives and for the community as a whole. Community participation is especially important in emergency situations.
