Ruangpan, Laddaporn, et al. "Economic Assessment of Nature-Based Solutions to Reduce Flood Risk and Enhance Co-Benefits". Journal of Environmental Management. February 2024. https://www.sciencedirect.com/... (Contributed by Gregory Autin).

Flooding is increasing due to climate change, urbanization and land-use changes.  Nature-based solutions (NBS) are commonly used as innovative and sustainable methods of flood risk management.  In addition to reducing flood risk, NBS also offer economic and ecological benefits for society and the environment.  However, these co-benefits are rarely considered in flood risk management because it is difficult to include them in economic evaluations and policy makers fail to consider the co-benefits of flood risk reduction in economic evaluations.  Life-cycle cost-benefit analysis (LCA) uses a systematic and transparent economic evaluation framework that considers the costs and benefits of the intended NBS over time, supported by key indicators such as net present value and benefit-cost ratio.
